8 Smart Tips to Ensure Device and App Safety for Families

Fraudsters have creative ways to steal our data either through an app or directly accessing our mobile. We use our phones for almost everything like watching movies/shows, banking, paying, browsing, etc and it has become inevitable in day-to-day life. Therefore, integrating device and app security would be the ideal choice.

Apart from comprehensive parental controls, below is a list of device and app security tips to keep your device safe.

1. Always lock your phone using PIN, or pattern, Touch ID, or facial ID or facial recognition when not in use.

2. Avoid public charging stations as hackers have been known to set up fake charging stations from where they can access your phone’s data or install malware on the device.

3. If you must connect your phone to public Wi-Fi, avoid visiting websites that contain sensitive or financial information.

4. Always update your phone’s Operating System (OS) when prompted. These updates are meant to protect your device and information.

5. Do not download apps from third-party sites. Cybercriminals create “spoof” apps to trick people into downloading malware or spyware onto their devices. Only use official apps from Google Play or iTunes.

6. Turn on remote tracking in your mobile device settings. Apple users – Find My iPhone, and Android users can enable Find My Device to see the last known location of the device. Both features allow you to remotely wipe your smartphone’s data if it’s stolen or can’t be retrieved.

7. Apart from comprehensive parental controls, install antivirus software on all your devices which provides security against malware or other viruses.

8. Enable two–factor authentication (2FA) for your key accounts, like mobile banking apps and peer-to-peer payment apps.
